Implementation of the Esperança-Condurú Ecological Corridor

The Esperança-Condurú Ecological Corridor encompasses the area from the Boa Esperança Municipal Park, adjacent to the urban area of Ilhéus, to the Serra do Conduru State Park (PESC for its acronym in Portuguese) (established between Ilhéus, Uruçuca and Itacaré municipalities), including the Environmental Protection Area (APA) of Lagoa Encantada and Rio Almada along the way. Altogether there are 140 thousand hectares (345,947.53 acres).

The Ministry of the Environment’s initiative to implement ecological corridors aims to involve civil society and the public and private sectors to join forces for the conservation of vegetation and protection of biodiversity.

Between 2010 and 2012, Floresta Viva worked on actions that contributed to the implementation of the Corridor. It was responsible for environmental education and communication activities (production of a website, radio shows and signposts). It also carried out the restoration of 10 hectares (24.71 acres) and conducted a survey, together with the Geoprocessing Laboratory of UESC (State University of Santa Cruz), to better understand land use by residents of the region. site, programas de rádio e placas sinalizadoras). Também realizou a restauração de 10 hectares e realizou uma pesquisa, junto ao Laboratório de Geoprocessamento da UESC (Universidade Estadual de Santa Cruz), para entender melhor o uso da terra pelos moradores da região.
