Otília Maria Nogueira, a member of Floresta Viva’s Deliberative Council, influenced the organization to support some of the flagships assumed by Quilombolas (traditional communities), especially regarding land access rights. From 2006 to 2010, IFV identified six community groups in Itacaré, located along the Rio de Contas, which contributed to the formalization of five quilombos: Serra de Água, Acaru, Cuiudos, João Rodrigues and Fojo. It was part of IFV’s work to support community empowerment by setting up councils and establishing other partnerships. These actions adhere to the organization’s purpose of enhancing community access to public policies.
