The Ecological Corridor Esperança-Conduru runs from the Boa Esperança Municipal Park area, adjacent to the urban area of Ilhéus, to the Serra do Conduru State Park (Ilhéus, Uruçuca and Itacaré). It includes the Environmental Protection Area (APA) Lagoa Encantada e Rio Almada. Altogether there are 140 thousand hectares of land in the corridor.
The Ministry of the Environment’s ecological corridor project aims to involve civil society and the public and private sectors to join conservation efforts and biodiversity protection initiatives.
Between 2010 and 2012, Floresta Viva contributed to the implementation of the Corridor. IFV was responsible for environmental education and communication activities (website production, radio programs and signaling boards). IFV also carried out the restoration of ten hectares of forestland and conducted research with the UESC (State University of Santa Cruz – Laboratory of Geoprocessing) to better understand residential land use.
